Description We are looking for an organized and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join our team on a contract basis in Sacramento, California. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial transactions, supporting accounting operations, and maintaining records in alignment with established procedures. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a non-profit organization while advancing your accounting skills. Responsibilities: - Process invoices and payment requests, ensuring proper account coding and routing for approval. - Review and prepare payments for travel-related expenses, purchase orders, and other financial requests, adhering to fiscal procedures. - Print and distribute checks while obtaining necessary signatures in compliance with departmental guidelines. - Communicate with vendors to resolve unpaid balances or overdue notices. - Verify and enter accounting data into the automated system, making corrections and preparing journal entries for review. - Utilize the accounting system to research routine financial inquiries and generate reports as needed. - Maintain organized accounting and payroll files, performing related clerical tasks. - Assist in payroll processing by compiling and coding data from timesheets and verifying calculations. - Review and process child care payments, ensuring accuracy and tracking balances. - Support bank reconciliation processes and other accounting tasks as assigned. Requirements - Minimum of 1 year of experience in accounting or a related field. - Proficiency in accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes. - Skilled in data entry and invoice processing with high attention to detail. - Familiarity with Great Plains Dynamics or similar accounting software. - Strong organizational and time management skills. - Effective communication abilities for vendor follow-ups and team collaboration. - Knowledge of payroll processing and reconciliation procedures. - Ability to work independently and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
