Job Description

The Data Governance Specialist supports the Data Governance Lead in implementing and maintaining a data governance program. This role involves project management, data domain onboarding, governance team coordination, and program reporting. The specialist will work with internal stakeholders to ensure the successful rollout of the data governance program, promote data governance best practices, and maintain consistent documentation.

Responsibilities:

- Develop and maintain a project plan for the Data Governance Program rollout.
- Track progress, risks, and dependencies across data domain rollout activities.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of milestones.
- Assist with the logistics and facilitation of onboarding activities for each data domain.
- Support the identification and engagement of data stewards, subject matter experts, and data owners.
- Ensure consistent documentation and use of the data cataloguing platform.
- Organize and facilitate meetings of the Data Governance Team of Excellence.
- Prepare agendas, capture meeting notes, and follow up on action items.
- Support the development of governance standards, policies, and procedures.
- Develop and maintain dashboards or reports to communicate program progress.
- Provide regular updates to executive sponsors and stakeholders.
- Assist in preparing communication materials to promote awareness and adoption of data governance practices.
- Provide status reports.
- Monthly invoicing including detailed hours worked.
- Advance availability planning to align with program needs.
- Participation in scheduled meetings and activities as agreed upon in advance with the Data Governance Program Lead.

Required Skills & Certifications:

- Proven experience in data governance program implementation, including domain onboarding and stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks and reference models (e.g. DAMA-DMBOK).
- Strong project management skills, preferably with experience in agile or iterative delivery models.
- Ability to facilitate and coordinate cross-functional teams and governance bodies.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills, including the ability to present to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Experience in change management and promoting data governance best practices across diverse business units.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- Familiarity with data cataloguing tools.

Special Considerations:

- This is not a full-time role; the level of effort will vary.
- Work will be scheduled in advance, with planning typically occurring one to two months ahead.
- The candidate must demonstrate flexibility and the ability to scale involvement based on the evolving needs of the program.
