Real Estate Tax Analyst Location Chicago, IL (The Loop area) :

Real Estate Property Tax Analyst

Our dedicated property tax boutique law firm in the Loop is looking to add an experienced full-time real estate property tax analyst to our staff. Our firm works with owners of commercial, industrial, all types of residential and special use properties in Cook County as well as other counties throughout Illinois. The ideal candidate will have experience with appeals at the Assessor's Office, Board of Review, Property Tax Appeal Board, but we are also willing to train the right candidate.

The analyst's responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

  • Review of real estate sale transaction documents, leases, ad valorem appraisals, income and expense statements, rent rolls, etc.
  • Utilization of Multiple Listing Service (MLS) and CoStar to examine sales comparables.
  • Frequent correspondence with tax appeal clients to obtain necessary authorization, documentation, and information;
  • Track assessment notices and maintain real estate tax appeal calendar with township and county specific deadlines to ensure timely response and filing of tax appeals;
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers as well as with clients by telephone, e-mail and USPS mail;
  • Development of appeal packages which include the preparation of the necessary paperwork for appeal (i.e., cover letter, complaint form, brief, comparable grid, RPIE, etc.).
  • Composition of appeal arguments in support of filed tax appeals including, but not limited to, the argument approaches of, income capitalization, vacancy, appraisal, recent purchase price, sales comparison, lack of assessment uniformity.
  • Data entry of assessment values, percentages, and tax rates into proprietary database system.
  • Preparation of real estate property tax analyses, estimations, and projections; and

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One year of office experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to adhere to deadlines.
  • Candidate must be organized, motivated, work well with others, have a strong work ethic, able to communicate with clients and have a professional demeanor.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with real estate operations, legal documents, and due diligence process associated with the acquisition and sale of properties.
  • Experience handling real estate tax appeals at a consulting firm, law firm, or in-house real estate department.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and ability to interpret financial statements
